Kodály Level 1   

Kodály Level I - Designed for K-12 Music Educators

A seedling program pursuing endorsement from the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE).

Developed and taught by the experienced faculty in the EWU Department of Music, discover the transformative Kodály Concept, a student-centered approach that builds strong musical foundations through singing, movement, and active participation. Provided in collaboration with the Spokane Area Youth Choirs, learners will have student-age participants to work with for teaching demonstrations and pedagogy in action.

Join Eastern Washington University’s Kodály Level 1 Certification program this summer! Our intensive two-week course offers 77 clock hours of professional development in Pedagogy, Musicianship, Conducting, Music Literature, Choral Ensemble, and Special Topics for Music Educators. Led by highly qualified instructors, this program will equip you with the skills needed to enhance your music teaching practice.

    Participants will study with nationally certified instructors, including Anne Mileski, MM, a seasoned early childhood and elementary music clinician, and Dr. Kristina Ploeger-Hekmatpanah, EWU’s Director of Choral Activities. Together, they will lead hands-on sessions in: musicianship, conducting, pedagogy and teaching processes, choral ensemble, music literature, and special topics for music educators.

    This “seedling” program is on the path toward endorsement by the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE). It aligns with OAKE’s mission to expand access to high-quality, research-informed music instruction.
