The Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate is designed for busy community members seeking practical, mobile-friendly training to teach English abroad. This program consists of nine focused, 3-week courses that can be taken individually and in any order—offering maximum flexibility.
Unlike traditional TESOL programs, this certificate is streamlined to prepare first-time TEFL teachers for success overseas. It excludes academic linguistics and U.S. K–12 teaching content, focusing solely on the real-world skills needed in international classrooms.
Courses are asynchronous, guided by experienced instructors, and include independent tasks to complete by the end of each session. Students can accelerate their progress by enrolling in multiple courses at once, with expanded offerings during summer months.
Key Features:
- Mobile-optimized, flexible learning
- Practical, real-world TEFL preparation
- No prior teaching experience required
- Start at any point in the course cycle
- Option to fast-track completion
Note: This certificate does not result in an English Language Learners (ELL) Endorsement for Washington State Teachers. All courses in this program must be completed in order to earn the EWU TEFL Certificate.
