Summer Camp: 2-day Forensics   

Forensics career exploration for students in grades 7-12. Designed and offered in collaboration with the EWU Criminal Justice Department, this day camp will teach students how to:

  • Collect and compare fingerprints
  • Photograph & document a crime scene
  • Analyze bloodstains, DNA, and trace evidence

Deep dive into the world of crime scene forensics at Eastern Washington University Cheney Campus during this two-day summer camp.

REGISTRATION STEPS : Please fill out all three (3) steps to secure your campers spot for the August 2026 EWU Summer Youth Forensics Camp.

Who: Students rising into grades 7-12 no prior forensics experience is needed

Program Cost: $155.00/student

Registration: Camp registration is required. As a condition of acceptance, students must have BOTH registration form completed and purchase of camp cost in full. 

Program Location: In-person -  Patterson Hall, Cheney, WA 99004 (Eastern Washington University Cheney Campus)

  • June: 25th & 26th, 2026 - FULL
  • August: 6th & 7th, 2026 - Enrolling Now

Lunch: Lunch break is a 30 minute period (noted in the agenda below). Lunch is not provided, please have your learner bring their food with them. Onsite purchase of lunch will not be available

Day 1: Latent Print Camp Schedule (9:00 – 4:00, Lunch 30 minutes)

  • 9:00 – 9:30. Intro, National Rifle Association Video, Lab Tour
  • 9:30-10:00. Latent Print History & Biology - Lecture
  • 10:00-10:30. Exemplar Recording  – Lecture & Demo
  • 10:30-11:15. Exemplar Recording – Exercise (Competition)
  • 11:15-12:15. Processing - Lecture
  • 12:15-12:45. LUNCH BREAK
  • 12:45-1:45. Processing – Exercise
  • 1:45-2:15. Pattern Classification – Lecture
  • 2:15 – 3:15. Comparison & Latent Process, Simon Cole Video – Lecture
  • 3:15-4:00. Comparison Examples, 99 Prints – Exercise (Competition)

 

Day 2: CSI Camp Schedule (9:00 – 4:00, Lunch 30 minutes)

  • 9:00-9:30. Intro, NRA Video, Lab Tour, group assignments
  • 9:30-10:30. Photography - Lecture
  • 10:30-11:00. Camera Introduction - Lecture
  • 11:00-11:45. Crime Scene Photography – Exercise (Competition)
  • 11:45-12:15. Impression & Trace Evidence - Lecture
  • 12:15-12:45. LUNCH BREAK
  • 12:45-1:45. DNA / Bloodstain Pattern - Lecture
  • 1:45-2:30. Amido Black, Leucocrystal Violet, Blue Star – Exercise
  • 2:30 – 3:00. Alternate Light Source Lecture and demo
  • 3:00 – 4:00. Scene Examination & Quiz (Competition)
